Trojan is a brand name of condoms manufactured by the Church & Dwight Company. The various types of Trojan condoms account for 70.5 percent of condom sales in drugstores in the United States, giving the brand more than four times the market share of other leading condom brands. Trojan brand condoms claim to be "trusted for over 90 years" as "America's #1 condom".
Trojan brand latex condoms are made from premium quality latex to help reduce the risk of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Each condom is electronically tested to help ensure reliability. There are over 29 varieties of Trojan brand condoms.
The Trojan condom brand debuted in 1920, manufactured by Young's Rubber which was owned by Merle Leland Young from New York. By stressing quality and tough pharmacy only laws that forbid the selling of condoms anywhere but pharmacies insured that Young's brand had a virtual monopoly in condom sales. Young's Rubbers were renamed Young's Drug Products Corporation which was in turn bought by the drug conglomerate, Carter-Wallace Inc in 1985. In turn, Carter-Wallace Inc sold its consumer-products arm to Church & Dwight, home to the Brillo and Arm & Hammer brands, in 2001.
The brand's mascot, Trojan Man, wears a golden Greek style breastplate and helmet. Merle Leland Young created a company logo that portrayed protection and virility.
The manufacturer offers several varieties, each featuring a unique combination of texture, lubrication, and construction material. Trojan Magnum is a specific brand of latex condom manufactured under the Trojan name. While they are marketed as a better fit for males with larger penises, Magnums are actually only 1/4" longer and 1/8" wider than standard condoms. Most standard condoms are designed with measurements of 7 3/4" length, 1 3/8" width, while Magnums measure 8" length, 1 1/2" width. The brand is highly recognizable due to its metallic-gold wrapper.
Trojan later introduced the Magnum XL, a slightly widened version of the brand. Magnum and Magnum XL both measure 8 inches long, while Magnum XL are 1/4 inch wider with 1 3/4" width. The Magnum XL is 1/4 inch longer and 3/8 inch wider than a standard condom.1
